Have you ever regretted not standing up for something you felt strongly about? Or not speaking up when you knew your words would make a difference? Have you ever worried about embarrassing yourself by acting on an idea others might reject? All of these questions describe risk-taking opportunities.

Taking a risk means stepping into a situation where the consequences of your decisions and actions are uncertain and there is some possibility of loss or adversity. It requires a willingness to operate outside of your comfort zone and experiment with new ways of doing things. Many of us are reluctant to pursue opportunities that could result in significant company growth because of the risks involved.

In this class, you will learn how to take risks with confidence by preparing yourself to take on an opportunity, assessing its consequences, and managing the results. This 3-hour instructor-led online seminar offers workplace tips, self-assessment exercises, real-life scenarios, practice activities, and more.

Key Topics:

  • Characteristics of effective risk-takers and questions to help you find your passion
  • Physical and mental manifestations of fear and how to overcome them
  • Habits to increase your self-confidence including developing positive self-talk
  • How to identify the risks and benefits of pursuing an opportunity or acting on an idea
  • How to estimate the probability and impact of a risk
  • Techniques of effective contingency planning

  • Develop your tolerance for risk and overcome fears.
  • Conduct a formal and informal risk analysis.
  • Plan for and manage the negative consequences of a risk.
  • Build resilience and learn from mistakes.

Listening is the cornerstone of communication. Effective listening makes the person speaking feel valued, prevents miscommunication, speeds productivity, and creates more active forums of discussion. But listening goes beyond just hearing. From reading body language and facial expressions, to discerning emotions to accurately processing messages, listening involves a high level of observation, empathy and analysis. Yet most of us unknowingly fail to listen.

According to studies on listening, we are distracted, preoccupied or forgetful about 75 percent of the time we should be listening. We listen at 125-250 words per minute, but think at 1000-3000 words per minute. Immediately after we listen to someone, we only recall about 50 percent of what they said. This is concerning, given that over 35 business studies indicate that listening is a top skill needed for success in business. So how can we improve our basic attention and retention?

This class will help you improve your listening skills by helping you discern hidden messages, kick distracted tendencies, listen in emotional situations or groups, and increase information flow to enhance productivity. As a result you will receive messages clearly, build rapport with colleagues, avoid mistakes as a result of miscommunication, and create more positive work environment. This 3-hour instructor-led online seminar offers workplace tips, self-assessment exercises, real-life scenarios, practice activities, and more.

Key Topics:

  • Understanding the difference between effective and ineffective listeners
  • How to prepare physically and mentally for listening
  • How to fulfill listening steps: ready, receive, review, respond, remember
  • Perfecting questioning techniques
  • Uncovering hidden messages by comparing body language and words

Participants Will Learn:

  • Describe the importance of listening
  • Identify barriers to listening well
  • Implement the steps of active listening
  • Uncover hidden messages
  • Listen in emotional situations

When problems happen at work, employees frequently do one of three things: they panic, they become apprehensive about approaching the problem, or they pass the issue on to someone else to solve. Yet a problem at work often means there is a potential solution – and the ability to creatively problem solve makes employees perceive problems as opportunities to harness and challenges to conquer.

Problem solving has become a necessity at work. A study conducted by AchieveGlobal revealed that 94 percent of those in its focus group felt greater time pressure and stress to solve problems more effectively and 53 percent said they have to creatively problem solve on a daily basis.

A problem-solving culture is ultimately a good thing. When an organization has a problem-solving culture, it fosters ideas and activities which extend beyond the problem and encourages innovation. Other benefits include better teamwork and trust, increased workplace engagement, increased job satisfaction and increased productivity.

This 3-hour instructor-led online seminar will cover the characteristics of an effective problem solver, challenge people’s go-to problem solving habits, reveal a variety of diagrams that help develop creative problem solving methods, and inspire you and your team to be more creative. This seminar offers workplace tips, self-assessment exercises, real-life scenarios, practice activities, and more.

Key Topics:

  • Maintaining innovation and creativity to withstand business challenges
  • Overcoming common misconceptions and creativity myths
  • Getting past political obstacles, criticism and negativity
  • The six basic laws of problem solving
  • How to take risks and learn from failure
  • Using the SCAMPER approach, the 7×7 technique, and other problem-solving matrixes to evaluate ideas

Participants Will Learn:

  • How to identify roadblocks that prevent creative thinking
  • To develop creative attitudes and learn to see that all problems have opportunities
  • How they can overcome criticism and gain acceptance for new ideas
  • Creative and effective techniques to recognize and identify problems
  • The best techniques for managing creative people
  • To realize the significance of humor and how it impacts creativity

Creating Chemistry in Teams Virtual Seminar

Chemistry in teams—you know it when you see it, but it can be hard to define. The blend of complementing work-styles, rapport, and organizational culture can serve as a basis for advanced team development and interaction. For this reason, people often use the word “chemistry” to describe an intangible, but positive effect on team performance.

Choosing team members is like choosing elements for a chemistry experiment—they are the basic building blocks. Assembling team members together in the right way—leveraging strengths—is like creating a balanced chemical equation. Monitoring how team members interact is like observing a chemical interaction, and measuring team results is like analyzing the results of a chemistry experiment.

This 3-hour instructor-led online seminar will provide you with the tools you need to be able to create chemistry in teams and offers workplace tips, self-assessment exercises, real-life scenarios, practice activities, and more.

Key Topics:

  • Identifying and correlating diverse and complementary skills, characteristics, and strengths to team roles
  • Encouraging positive communication patterns and actively avoiding negative interactions
  • Recognizing the symptoms of groupthink and overcoming its prevalence
  • Forming a strong team commitment along with assuming individual responsibility
  • Uncovering the measured outcome by telling a user story
  • Being a strong team leader by acting on feedback, mediating short and long term conflict, and combatting low morale

Participants Will Learn:

  • Understand how to choose team members to create a high performing team.
  • Leverage the strengths of team members to maximize team performance.
  • Implement strategies to promote positive interactions.
  • Evaluate team processes and team results.
  • Recognize the responsibilities of a team leader.
